The inspiration for the Duke and Duchess of Shangers came from Bridget Kelly's own parents.

Princess Sophia is a great organizer, loves giving tea parties for her family and friends and her special interests are devising new recipes for teatime treats, inventing and playing board games with her children, Princess Teana and Prince Maximus, and yoga.

Prince Ernest is a good storyteller, a charming host and a loving father. His special interests are inventing some of the great tea-technology of Teaopolis like the Flying Cup & Saucer, the Tea-phone and the Tea-leaf Vision . Prince Ernest is also a master of imaginary languages like the famous Egg language, in which he is fluent.

Prince Maximus Teana's brother, pilot of the Shangers Flying Cup & Saucer

Bridget Kelly's brother Maximus, who was killed at the Battle of the Somme in WWI was the inspiration for Prince Maximus von Shangers of Teaopolis.

In Bridget's teatime stories Maximus is a robustly normal boy who loves building his own inventions and taking them to pieces again, just like his father, Prince Ernest. It's Maximus who more than anyone else in Teaopolis, pilots the Shangers Flying Cup & Saucer. This incredible machine is capable of time travel into the past and future, and ferries in guests to the famous tea parties at Shangers Castle.

Traveling around the world to different places at different times has given Maximus a great knowledge of history and different cultures. People he's met along the way include William Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth I of England, Christopher Columbus, George Washington, Robin Hood and Sleeping Beauty. Maximus speaks several languages including, like his parents, the imaginary Egg language.
